Getting started

How do I begin working with Aspire?

The first step is a free consultation, during which we take the time to understand your goals, academic background, and timeline. From there, we recommend the most appropriate programme, whether that is ongoing tutoring, targeted admissions support, or both.

What is Aspire?

Aspire was founded by Hamish, an Oxford-educated historian with a PhD from the University of Oxford and over seven years of experience helping students gain places at the world's leading universities.

Aspire operates as a premium academic consultancy, not a generic tutoring marketplace. Every student is supported by an expert with a proven track record in their specific subject or application pathway.

Who does Aspire work with?

Aspire works with ambitious students at all stages of secondary and pre-university education, from GCSE level through to A-Level, IB, and university applications. Students are based across the UK, US, and internationally.

Aspire is particularly well-suited to students with high aspirations: those aiming for top grades, competitive universities, or both.

How quickly can we get started?

In most cases, an initial consultation can be arranged within 48 hours of enquiry. Following a consultation, the first tutoring or admissions session is typically scheduled within one week.

For time-sensitive situations, such as approaching application deadlines or imminent exams, please make this clear when you make contact and Aspire will prioritise accordingly.

Tutoring

Which subjects and levels does Aspire cover?

Aspire offers expert tutoring across a wide range of subjects at GCSE, A-Level, and International Baccalaureate (IB) level. Subject specialisms include Maths, Sciences, Humanities, Social Sciences, Literature, and academic writing, alongside support for students preparing for university entrance exams.

If you are unsure whether Aspire can help with your particular subject, please get in touch and we will advise.

How are sessions structured?

Sessions are one-to-one and tailored entirely to the individual student. Before the first session, Aspire conducts a thorough assessment of the student's current level, target grades, and any specific areas of difficulty.

A typical session combines structured teaching, guided practice, and analytical discussion. Students are not simply coached to pass exams; they are taught to think independently and develop genuine subject mastery.

How long does it take to see results?

Most students experience a measurable improvement in confidence and understanding within the first three to four sessions. Grade improvements typically become evident within six to eight weeks of consistent engagement.

Aspire students achieve an average improvement of two or more grade boundaries, with the majority reaching an A or A* at A-Level.

How frequently should sessions take place?

For sustained academic progress, Aspire recommends one to two sessions per week. The appropriate frequency depends on the student's goals, the time available, and whether there are upcoming examinations or deadlines.

Aspire is flexible: programmes can be adjusted as circumstances change, including short-term intensive support ahead of exams.

University admissions

What admissions support does Aspire provide?

Aspire offers comprehensive admissions consulting for UK university applications via UCAS, Oxbridge applications (including personal statement development and interview preparation), and US college applications.

Support covers every stage of the process: university selection strategy, personal statement drafting and refinement, interview coaching, admissions test preparation, and final submission review.

When should we begin Oxbridge preparation?

Ideally, Oxbridge preparation begins at the start of Year 12, allowing sufficient time to develop a compelling academic identity, prepare for admissions tests, and refine the personal statement before the October UCAS deadline.

That said, Aspire has successfully supported students who began preparation as late as the summer before application. Early engagement, however, consistently produces stronger outcomes.

Aspire has helped students gain places at Oxford, Cambridge, UCL, LSE, Edinburgh, St Andrews, and other leading universities worldwide.

Does Aspire help with US college applications?

Yes. Aspire provides end-to-end support for students applying to US universities, including Ivy League and other highly selective institutions. This includes Common App essay strategy and writing, supplemental essays, activity list development, and interview preparation.

Aspire is experienced in guiding international students through the nuances of the US admissions process, including standardised testing strategy (SAT and ACT) and how to present a British academic background effectively to US admissions committees.

Can Aspire help with a UCAS and a US application at the same time?

Yes. Many Aspire students pursue both UK and US applications concurrently. Aspire provides integrated support that manages both timelines efficiently, so neither application is compromised.

Given the significant overlap in application deadlines, early engagement is strongly recommended for students pursuing this dual-track route.

Online sessions

How do online sessions work?

All Aspire sessions are delivered online via video call, using a shared digital workspace for live annotation, document review, and collaborative writing. Sessions replicate the quality and intimacy of in-person tutoring without geographical limitations.

Students need a stable internet connection, a computer or laptop with a webcam, and a quiet study environment. Aspire provides all necessary links and setup guidance ahead of the first session.

Is online tutoring as effective as in-person?

Aspire's experience, and the evidence more broadly, confirms that online tutoring delivered well is as effective as in-person sessions. The quality of the tutor and the strength of the relationship between tutor and student are consistently the most important factors in outcomes.

Online delivery removes geographical limitations entirely, so students anywhere in the world can access Aspire's highest-quality support.

What time zones do you accommodate?

Aspire works with students across the UK, US, Middle East, Asia, and beyond. Sessions are scheduled flexibly to accommodate different time zones. Please indicate your location and preferred session times during the initial consultation and Aspire will confirm availability.

Pricing & bookings

How much do sessions cost?

Aspire's pricing reflects the premium, highly personalised nature of the support provided. Fees vary depending on the type of support required, the level of expertise involved, and the duration and scope of the programme.

Prices start from £85 per hour. Full pricing details are discussed during the initial consultation. There are no hidden fees, and all costs are agreed transparently before any engagement begins.

Is the initial consultation free?

Yes. The initial consultation is complimentary and carries no obligation. It is an opportunity to discuss your goals, ask questions, and decide whether Aspire is the right fit before any commitment is made.

What is your cancellation policy?

Aspire requests a minimum of 24 hours' notice for any session cancellation or rescheduling. Sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours' notice may be charged in full. Full details are set out in the client agreement provided at the start of each engagement.

Results & track record

What results have Aspire students achieved?

Aspire students consistently achieve strong academic outcomes. The majority of students working with Aspire at A-Level achieve A or A* grades, and average grade improvements of two or more boundaries are the norm across both GCSE and A-Level programmes.

In admissions, Aspire has supported successful applications to Oxford, Cambridge, UCL, LSE, Edinburgh, St Andrews, KCL, and leading US institutions.

Can you guarantee a place at a particular university?

No ethical admissions consultant can guarantee a specific outcome. Admissions decisions rest ultimately with the institutions themselves. What Aspire guarantees is the highest standard of preparation: a compelling, authentic application that gives every student the strongest possible chance of success.

Aspire's role is to ensure that no student is rejected due to a preventable weakness in their application, and that every student presents at their very best.

Where can I read reviews from past students and parents?

A selection of testimonials from students and parents can be found on the Testimonials page. Aspire is happy to provide further references on request during the initial consultation.

Our tutors

Who are Aspire's tutors?

Aspire works exclusively with highly qualified academic specialists: graduates and postgraduates from the world's leading universities, including Oxford, Cambridge, and other Russell Group institutions. Every tutor brings both deep subject expertise and a genuine passion for their discipline. Students are not taught by generalists; they are taught by specialists who know their subject at the highest level.

How does Aspire select its tutors?

Selection is rigorous. Every tutor is assessed on three criteria: academic credentials, demonstrated teaching ability, and intellectual enthusiasm for their subject.

Qualifications alone are not sufficient. Aspire looks for tutors who can go beyond the syllabus, inspire genuine curiosity, and build lasting confidence in the students they work with.

All tutors are interviewed, reference-checked, background-checked, and assessed before being introduced to any student.

Will my child always work with the same tutor?

Yes. Consistency is central to the Aspire model. Students are carefully matched to the tutor best suited to their subject, level, and personal learning style, and that relationship is maintained throughout the engagement. Aspire does not rotate tutors or make substitutions without good reason and prior discussion with the family.

How does Aspire match students to tutors?

Matching takes place following the initial consultation, during which Aspire assesses the student's academic profile, goals, and any specific requirements. The tutor selected will have direct, proven experience in the relevant subject and examination pathway.

Are Aspire's tutors experienced with competitive applications?

Yes. Many Aspire tutors have themselves navigated highly competitive admissions processes and bring first-hand understanding of what Oxford, Cambridge, and leading US universities look for. This expertise informs not only admissions consulting but the academic tutoring programme as a whole: students are taught to think and write in the way that top universities reward.
