Getting started

The first step is a free consultation. We use it to understand your goals, academic background, and timeline. From there we recommend the most suitable programme, whether that is ongoing tutoring, targeted admissions support, or a combination of both.

Aspire was founded by Dr Hamish Roberts, an Oxford-educated historian with a DPhil from the University of Oxford and more than six years of experience helping students win places at the world's leading universities.

Aspire operates as a premium academic consultancy rather than a generic tutoring marketplace. Every student is supported by an expert with a proven record in their specific subject or application pathway.

Aspire works with ambitious students at every stage of secondary and pre-university education, from GCSE through A-Level, IB, and university applications. Students are based across the UK, US, and internationally.

The fit is strongest for students with high aspirations: those aiming for top grades, competitive universities, or both.

In most cases an initial consultation can be arranged within 48 hours of enquiry. The first tutoring or admissions session is typically scheduled within a week of that consultation.

For time-sensitive situations such as approaching deadlines or imminent exams, tell us when you make contact and Aspire will prioritise accordingly.

Tutoring

Aspire offers expert tutoring across a wide range of subjects at GCSE, A-Level, and International Baccalaureate level. Specialisms include Maths, the Sciences, Humanities, Social Sciences, Literature, and academic writing, alongside support for university entrance exams.

If you are unsure whether Aspire can help with a particular subject, get in touch and we will advise.

Sessions are one-to-one and tailored to the individual student. Before the first session Aspire assesses the student's current level, target grades, and any areas of difficulty.

A typical session combines structured teaching, guided practice, and analytical discussion. Students are not simply coached to pass exams. They are taught to think independently and build genuine subject mastery.

Most students notice a measurable improvement in confidence and understanding within the first three to four sessions. Grade improvements typically become evident within six to eight weeks of consistent work.

Aspire students achieve an average improvement of two or more grade boundaries, with the majority reaching an A or A* at A-Level.

For sustained progress Aspire recommends one to two sessions per week. The right frequency depends on the student's goals, the time available, and whether exams or deadlines are approaching.

Programmes can be adjusted as circumstances change, including short-term intensive support before exams.

University admissions

Aspire offers comprehensive admissions consulting for UK applications through UCAS, Oxbridge applications including personal statement development and interview preparation, and US college applications.

Support covers every stage: university selection strategy, personal statement drafting and refinement, interview coaching, admissions test preparation, and final submission review.

Ideally Oxbridge preparation begins at the start of Year 12. This allows time to develop a strong academic identity, prepare for admissions tests, and refine the personal statement before the October UCAS deadline.

Aspire has also supported students who began as late as the summer before application, though earlier engagement consistently produces stronger outcomes.

Aspire has helped students win places at Oxford, Cambridge, UCL, LSE, Edinburgh, St Andrews, and other leading universities worldwide.

Yes. Aspire provides end-to-end support for students applying to US universities, including the Ivy League and other highly selective institutions. This covers Common App essay strategy and writing, supplemental essays, activity list development, and interview preparation.

Aspire also guides international students through the nuances of US admissions, including standardised testing strategy (SAT and ACT) and how to present a British academic background effectively to US committees.

Yes. Many Aspire students pursue UK and US applications concurrently. Aspire provides integrated support that manages both timelines so neither application is compromised.

Given the overlap in deadlines, early engagement is strongly recommended for this dual-track route.

Online sessions

All Aspire sessions are delivered online by video call, using a shared digital workspace for live annotation, document review, and collaborative writing. Sessions match the quality and intimacy of in-person tutoring without geographical limits.

Students need a stable internet connection, a computer or laptop with a webcam, and a quiet place to work. Aspire provides all links and setup guidance before the first session.

Aspire's experience, and the wider evidence, confirms that online tutoring delivered well is as effective as in-person teaching. The quality of the tutor and the strength of the tutor-student relationship are the factors that matter most for outcomes.

Online delivery also removes geographical limits, so students anywhere in the world can access Aspire's support.

Aspire works with students across the UK, US, Middle East, Asia, and beyond. Sessions are scheduled flexibly around different time zones.

Share your location and preferred times during the initial consultation and Aspire will confirm availability.

Pricing & bookings

Aspire's pricing reflects the premium, highly personalised nature of the support. Fees depend on the type of support, the level of expertise involved, and the scope of the programme.

Prices start from £85 per hour, and full details are discussed during the initial consultation. There are no hidden fees. All costs are agreed openly before any engagement begins.

Yes. The initial consultation is complimentary and carries no obligation. It is a chance to discuss your goals, ask questions, and decide whether Aspire is the right fit before any commitment.

Aspire asks for at least 24 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule a session. Sessions cancelled with less than 24 hours' notice may be charged in full. Full details are set out in the client agreement provided at the start of each engagement.

Results & track record

Aspire students consistently achieve strong outcomes. The majority working with Aspire at A-Level reach A or A* grades, and average improvements of two or more grade boundaries are the norm across GCSE and A-Level programmes.

In admissions, Aspire has supported successful applications to Oxford, Cambridge, UCL, LSE, Edinburgh, St Andrews, KCL, and leading US institutions.

No ethical admissions consultant can guarantee a specific outcome, because decisions rest with the institutions themselves. What Aspire guarantees is the highest standard of preparation: a compelling, authentic application that gives every student the strongest possible chance.

Aspire's role is to ensure no student is rejected for a preventable weakness in their application, and that every student presents at their best.

A selection of testimonials from students and parents is on the Testimonials page. Aspire is happy to provide further references on request during the initial consultation.

Our tutors

Aspire works only with highly qualified academic specialists: graduates and postgraduates from the world's leading universities, including Oxford, Cambridge, and other Russell Group institutions. Every tutor brings deep subject expertise and real enthusiasm for their discipline.

Students are taught by specialists who know their subject at the highest level, not by generalists.

Selection is rigorous. Every tutor is assessed on academic credentials, demonstrated teaching ability, and intellectual enthusiasm for their subject. Qualifications alone are not enough. Aspire looks for tutors who can go beyond the syllabus, spark curiosity, and build lasting confidence.

All tutors are interviewed, reference-checked, background-checked, and assessed before being introduced to any student.

Yes. Consistency is central to how Aspire works. Students are matched to the tutor best suited to their subject, level, and learning style, and that relationship is maintained throughout the engagement.

Aspire does not rotate tutors or make substitutions without good reason and prior discussion with the family.

Matching takes place after the initial consultation, once Aspire has assessed the student's academic profile, goals, and any specific requirements. The tutor selected will have direct, proven experience in the relevant subject and examination pathway.

Yes. Many Aspire tutors have navigated highly competitive admissions themselves and bring first-hand understanding of what Oxford, Cambridge, and leading US universities look for.

That insight informs both admissions consulting and the wider tutoring programme, so students learn to think and write in the way top universities reward.
