Admissions support for students applying to Oxford or Cambridge. We work on the course and college decision, the admissions test, any written work the course requires, and the December interview. Most families come to us in Year 12, which is early enough for all of it.

THE APPLICATION
What an Oxbridge application asks for
Four things separate it from the rest of a UCAS year, and all of them arrive earlier than families expect.
An earlier deadline
Applications close at 18:00 UK time on 15 October, roughly three months before the ordinary UCAS deadline. Since a completed school reference has to be in place before submission, the real cut-off inside a school is earlier still.
An admissions test
Most competitive courses set one. ESAT, TMUA and TARA are booked through UAT-UK and sat in October, while Law uses the LNAT and Medicine the UCAT. Registration closes before the UCAS deadline, and missing it ends the application. Admissions test preparation →
Work that gets read
Many arts and humanities courses ask for submitted essays or set a written assessment at interview. Schoolwork sent in exactly as it came back from a teacher rarely shows a candidate at their best, because it was written to a different brief.
The interview
December interviews are run like tutorials. A tutor takes the candidate past the end of what they have been taught, then watches how they reason from there. Students can practise for that months before an invitation arrives.
CHOOSING BETWEEN THEM
Where Oxford and Cambridge differ
You may apply to one of them in a cycle, not both, so this is the first decision a candidate has to make. The two processes look alike from outside, but they differ on tests, on shortlisting, on interview dates, and on what happens to a strong candidate a college cannot take.
Oxford
- TestsESAT, TMUA and TARA through UAT-UK, plus the LNAT for Law and the UCAT for Medicine. For 2027 entry, booking closed on 28 September 2026 and tests were sat between 12 and 16 October 2026.
- ShortlistingTest scores and the UCAS application decide who is interviewed. Oxford releases test results in November.
- InterviewsHeld online over Microsoft Teams in early to mid December. Most candidates are interviewed more than once, often by a second college.
- CollegeName a college or make an open application. Either route can end with an offer from a college you did not name.
- DecisionsFor 2027 entry, outcomes reach shortlisted candidates through UCAS on 12 January 2027.
Cambridge
- TestsESAT, TMUA, the LNAT and the UCAT are registered for in advance. Many arts and humanities courses instead set a college assessment once you are invited to interview, with no advance registration.
- A second formMy Cambridge Application arrives by email after the UCAS submission and carries its own deadline, 18:00 on 22 October for 2027 entry. It includes an optional Cambridge-specific statement of 1,200 characters.
- InterviewsHeld between 7 and 18 December 2026 for 2027 entry, online or in person depending on the college and the course.
- The winter poolStrong candidates a college cannot take are passed to others, with further interviews in mid to late January.
- DecisionsJanuary for October applicants, released through UCAS and by the university.
Dates on this page are for 2027 entry and come from the universities and from UAT-UK. Check them against the official pages before you plan around them, since both universities revise their arrangements between cycles.
An Oxbridge interview asks a candidate to think out loud in front of a tutor who teaches the subject, and that can be practised.
HOW WE WORK
How Oxbridge preparation works with Aspire
Five strands of work. We run them in whatever order suits the student, and not every student needs all five. Most families start in the spring or summer of Year 12, though later starts still work.
We look at the grades and the subject choices, and at what the student has read outside them. Then we say whether Oxbridge is a realistic target, and what would have to change for it to become one. If another route suits them better we say so before anyone has paid us anything.
Two courses that sound alike can want very different students, and the prospectus rarely says so. We work out which one fits, then turn to college choice, the open application, and how heavily subscribed the course was last cycle.
Interviewers are looking for range, and a student cannot get that from six weeks of reading in the autumn. A tutor in the subject sets the reading and then argues with the student about it, until there is a position the student can defend in December. Most students start from our Resources library.
Personal statement work against the current three-question format, written work chosen and prepared where a course requires it, and structured practice for the ESAT, TMUA, TARA, LNAT, UCAT, MAT or STEP. Test technique can be taught. The timetable cannot be moved, which is why practice has to start in the summer.
Mock interviews with tutors who teach the subject at degree level, run in the format the student will actually meet. Most of the work is composure. A student has to be able to think out loud and keep going after being wrong in front of someone.
All of it is available through any of our three routes, from a short block of sessions to Academic Stewardship, and it can run alongside a US college application with the same team.
THE YEAR AHEAD
The 2027 entry timetable
Everything an Oxbridge candidate does is set against these dates. The deadline and the tests land within a few days of each other in October, so the autumn is crowded. That is the case for starting in the summer.
Course shortlist, subject reading, and the first drafts of an argument the student can call their own. Most of what appears in the October application is decided here.
UAT-UK registration opens for the ESAT, TMUA and TARA, including access arrangements and bursary requests. Booking opens on 20 July.
Test booking closes. A candidate who has not booked by this point cannot sit the test.
The ESAT, TMUA and TARA are sat at Pearson centres. The LNAT and the UCAT run to their own separate timetables.
The UCAS deadline for Oxford, Cambridge, and most medicine, dentistry and veterinary courses. The school reference has to be complete before the application can go.

Shortlisting. Oxford releases admissions test results on 16 November, and interview invitations follow through the month.
Interviews. Oxford runs online in early to mid December, Cambridge between 7 and 18 December. The period has to be kept free.
Oxford decisions reach candidates through UCAS on 12 January, Cambridge decisions during the month. Winter pool interviews at Cambridge run mid to late January.

WHO WE WORK WITH
Where families usually come in
Most students reach us at one of four points in the cycle. How much time is left decides how much of the application can still be changed, so the work looks quite different in each case.
Year 12, before the summer
The strongest position to start from. There is time to read properly, to find out whether the course is what the student actually wants, and to reach the October test after months of practice.
Year 13, in the autumn
Compressed but workable. The personal statement and the test come first, since the test is only weeks away, and the course and college decision has to be made quickly and then defended in December.
After the test, before the interview
Interview preparation on its own, for students who have already applied. Mock interviews in the format their college uses, run by a tutor who teaches the subject.
Reapplying, or applying from abroad
Students coming back after a rejection, and international applicants working across time zones with extra English language and transcript requirements. Both need the timeline planned backwards from October.

QUESTIONS
Asked most often about Oxbridge
Can a student apply to both Oxford and Cambridge?
No. In the same cycle you may apply to one of them, with narrow exceptions for organ awards and for some graduate applicants. Choosing between them is the first piece of work, and the deciding factor should be the course.
When should preparation start?
The spring or summer of Year 12. Starting then gives the reading time to settle and lets test practice run across months instead of weeks, and it means the personal statement can be written out of work the student has actually done. Students who come to us in September still gain a great deal. The work is just narrower and more urgent.
Which admissions test will my child need?
It depends on the course and the university. ESAT covers the sciences and engineering, TMUA the mathematical courses, TARA the social sciences and some humanities at Oxford, with the LNAT for Law and the UCAT for Medicine. Several Cambridge arts courses set a college assessment at interview instead. We confirm the requirement against the university's own page before any preparation starts.
Do you guarantee a place?
No, and nobody can. Both universities turn away thousands of applicants every year who meet the academic requirements in full. Preparation changes one thing: how well a candidate can show their thinking under questioning. That is what the interview scores.
Do you work with international applicants?
Yes. Sessions are held online, and we work with families across time zones on both UK and US admissions. International applicants face the same deadlines, with additional requirements around English language qualifications and, at Cambridge, an application fee.
What does it cost?
Oxbridge preparation starts at £135 an hour, and where the rate lands above that depends on the subject, the tutor and how much support is wanted. After the initial consultation you receive up to three written plans within 48 hours, each setting out the services, the hourly rate and the timeline in full, so the cost is agreed before any work begins.
